WINE COMPETITION

BURSTING WITH AS MUCH FLAVOR AS EVER
For the past 25 years, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition has been devoted to wine — from what’s within the bottles to the people and places beyond them.
Since its inception, the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition (SFCWC) has grown to become one of the world’s most highly publicized and well-respected wine competitions, offering both large-scale and boutique wineries the opportunity to showcase their wines on a larger level. Two decades later, it is the largest competition of North American wines in the world and continues to bring award-winning wines to more and more consumer glasses.
The individuals behind these bottles are more than just winemakers – they’re artisans who seamlessly blend advanced winemaking technology with traditional approaches. And we believe they need to be recognized. Now in its 25th year, the meticulously judged contest evaluates some 5,500 wines from more than 900 North American wineries throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.
It’s an awesome undertaking for the more than five dozen judges, professionals handpicked from media, trade, winemaking, education and restaurant/hospitality industries, including the Chronicle’s very own Senior Wine Critic Esther Mobley. But it’s a labor of love, to celebrate both large-scale and boutique wineries and bring international attention to award-winning wines.
